Description
We have for your consideration a Dolly Rekord - phonograph doll. She was part of the Madame Hendren line of dolls. She was introduced to the doll market in 1922. She is 26" tall but designed to sit. She was produced by the Averill Manufacturing Company who created the small scale phonograph mechanism which is implanted in the doll's back. She has a crank handle on her right hip which when wound up powers the spring-loaded motor. She plays a miniature cylinder record and the sound is directed through a horn that ends at a hole in the doll's chest. These dolls are generally quiet but audible. When they were new they came with 6 record cylinders, which were mostly nursery rhymes and one was a child's bedtime prayer. This girl comes with one cylinder (Now I lay Me Down) which is a prayer. Her mechanism has been checked and is in working order. Dolly Rekord is a composition doll, her head, arms and legs are compo. She has a stuffed cloth body. She has blue/grey working sleep eyes and a very curly blonde human hair wig (blonde hair is more rare for these dolls). Two teeth and her tongue can be seen in her open mouth. The Madame Hendren ink stamp is not found on this doll. This Dolly is in very good cosmetic condition. Her face and legs look clean. Her arms could use a repaint. Her dress and socks are not original to the doll. The dress is a similar fashion to the original Please look at photos closely as they are an important part of our description. We are parting with several antique talking dolls from our personal collection. So this blonde talker is looking for someone new to talk to. Included will be a photocopy of the doll's original instructions. None of the items in the background in the pictures are part of this auction -- only Dolly doll and record are included.***We only ship to the lower 48 US states
