Description
Five original antique standard-size photo postcards of Egypt from the early 1900s.These divided-back postcards measure 9 x 13.7 cm [3½" x 5½"]. Four were mailed to recipients at The Precincts, Canterbury, Kent, England. One is unaddressed and unposted.
Views include a sherbet seller, a family at dinner, the Mahmoudieh Canal in Alexandria, six women on a wagon pulled by a donkey, and a planter plowing his field.
One card is dated 1913. The others appear to be from approximately the same time period, roughly World War I era. One has a neat rubber-stamp imprint from the British Red Cross and Order of St. John, Alexandria.
Either the original recipient in Canterbury or a subsequent owner of the cards may have been a stamp collector because the stamps have been neatly removed from the posted cards.
